Huebound

Mix light. Discover color.

Huebound is an abstract factory game about mixing colors. Place geometric nodes, connect them with lines, and watch colored orbs flow through your network. Combine primary colors to create new hues — each one named, valued, and waiting to be discovered.

Note: This game was built with AI. This game is also a work in progress, and will be directly impacted by your feedback, so please let me know how it can improve!

How It Works

  • Sources generate colored orbs (Blue, Red, Yellow)
  • Combiners mix input colors together using subtractive color mixing — just like real paint
  • Splitters duplicate orbs into two streams
  • Sellers convert orbs into Light (☀), your currency

Features

  • 🎨 256 named colors to discover — from Crimson to Nebula to Tiger Eye
  • 🔬 Subtractive color mixing — Blue + Yellow = Green, Red + Blue = Purple, just like paint
  • Distance matters — orb travel time depends on connection length, so node placement is strategic
  • 📈 Escalating costs — each node gets more expensive the more you place
  • 🛒 Shop upgrades — unlock new node types, boost production speed, transfer speed, and more
  • 🎵 Procedural audio — every sound generated from pure waveforms, no samples
  • 💾 Auto-save — your factory persists between sessions
  • 🖥️ No art assets — everything is procedurally drawn geometric shapes and glowing particles

The Goal

Discover all 256 colors. Rarer colors — those furthest from the three primaries — are worth the most Light. Experiment with different mixing chains to find exotic hues hiding in the palette.

Tips

  • First discovery of any color gives a bonus payout
  • Check the Collection gallery to see which colors you've found

Controls

  • Left-click — Place, connect, select
  • Right-click — Cancel action / pan camera
  • Middle-click — Pan camera
  • Scroll — Zoom
  • Escape — Cancel / deselect

ugh, another emoji ridden AI generated slop

yes, but he's MY emoji ridden AI generated slop, and I love him.

Most of your feedback has been implemented and is now live! Check out the patch notes:

  • Heard loud and clear guys, Going to debug that droning noise out. That's what I get for testing while muted XD

    Also some planned changes:
  • Larger resolution
  • tutorial rework - I got some feedback on reddit that it's too hand-holdy, and that the canvas dimming is preventing gameplay, as some of you here said.
  • connect mode will stay enabled after creating a connection
  • Color mix will be fixed to be more intuitive. This is already working in my dev version
  • Adding on-hover recipes in the collection (Great Idea, @Acamaeda!)
  • Settings menu with volume slider
  • I'm also still experimenting with balance, so bear with me if progression gets boring at times.
  • A disclaimer in the summary of this page stating that the game was made using AI assistance.

Tinnitus coming in clutch. Didn't know about the droning noise.

Fixed!

The droning noise was annoying so I tried deactivating it via menu, and it told me that the progress will be saved, but there was no volume sliders and when I got back into the game all nodes were deleted and I was too poor to buy new ones.

Fixed!

the idea is really cool. i was quite excieted mixing red and bllue to purple. but then i had to wait and it got boring rather quickly. not sure if my sound is broken, but i just hear one constant humming.

Fixed that humming noise!

I'm still actively working on balance, but I did add a game speed slider to settings for testing, feel free to check it out!

It would be nice to be able to see information about colors in the collection, both their value and recipe.

This was added based on your recommendation!

Is there any way to close tutorial pop ups? I already did what the pop up told me but it won't go away.

same for me...softlock by tutorial blocking my ability to click

Fixed! The tutorial won't be as annoying moving forward.

The tutorial has been reworked to be far less intrusive. Check out the patch notes: https://danhicks853.itch.io/huebound/devlog/1399453/the-please-stop-the-humming-...

This is a first release, I know there's some bugs, but I'm looking for feedback, especially on progression and balance.

Next features planned are more nodes and a prestige system, if I ever figure out what that actually looks like.
